Presented by Julie Cavil – Winemaking Director and Jerome Jacoillot – Winemaking Development Manager of the Krug Winemaking Team, the stage was set to share the founder Joseph Krug’s dream and to discover the symphony of Champagne No 1 & No 2 and the story of 2006. Globally renowned harmonica virtuoso, composer and singer songwriter CY Leo performed a crafted playlist of live KRUG X MUSIC pairings. Towards the end of the event, a symphony of food pairings by Krug Ambassade and Krug Lover, Executive Chef Robin Zavou of The Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong accompanied the notes of Krug.

As part of its global tour, the House of Krug invites Champagne lovers to discover Joseph Krug’s founding principles of Champagne creation in a rare set of two different expressions of nature in 2006. Krug 2006 is the story of the year, captured by Krug and Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition is the fullest expression of Champagne, composed around the harvest of 2006.
Each Krug vintage is crafted to celebrate the distinct character of a particular year. With elegant intensity and silky roundness, Krug 2006 reveals the delectable story of a year so contrasted the House decided to nickname this Champagne “Capricious Indulgence”. True to the unique vision of the House’s founder Joseph Krug and drawing an unbroken line that stretches across six generations of the Krug family, Krug 2006 is presented alongside Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition. These bottles were intentionally kept in Krug’s cellars, waiting for this very special moment. “Les Créations de 2006” is a limited edition case with only 100 available globally.

Blending KRUG X MUSIC in a one-off immersive experience at The Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong on 17th October 2019, the journey will reveal the art of playing with contrasts reflective of the 2006 harvest. PARIS WITH KRUG 2006
Cy Leo was inspired by the generous and expressive profile of Krug 2006. On the palate Krug 2006 feels mysterious, rich and opulent. “ A perfect combination of warmth and generosity – a confident assurance, which is really attractive to others.”The music piece Cy Leo has chosen echoes some of these characteristics: It is a deep, wide, profound melody - continuous, powerful and enveloping through the whole track, combined with elegant, vibrating and captivating effects of harmonica.

FANTASE IMPROMPTU WITH KRUG GRANDE CUVÉE 162ÈME EDITION

Cy Leo was inspired by the complexity of the notes of this Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème on the palate, with 163 wines in this incredibly complex Champagne.“It is deep, generous and with a lot of notes and aromas to taste, like a grand finale of fireworks with lots of different colours to watch, a grand orchestra of 163 musicians – playing together” The music piece he has chosen echoes some of these characteristics. It is very generous, with plenty of patterns and surprises to listen to. The piano, drums and harmonica are playing together joyfully, they are also answering each other. This track goes crescendo – with a lot of depth and resonance.

Food pairings included: Canapes of: Waffle, Kalamansi & Foie Gras - Tartare, Parmesan & Walnut - Scallop, Nori & Oyster - Ham Comte Monsieur - Korean Fried Crab - Red Prawn Tagine & Lemon - Leek, Potato Harissa.


Julie Cavil
Winemaking Director, House of Krug

Julie Cavil is the Winemaking Director at the House of Krug in Reims, France.

She was born in the Centre region of France in 1974. The daughter of a doctor, Julie was raised in an area devoid of viticulture, where a winemaking profession was but a distant possibility. She embarked upon a career in communications after five years at one of the country’s top business schools.

For six years, she was an Account Director for an established communications agency in Paris, where she also met her husband. Both enthusiastic wine lovers, this passion eventually drove them to leave their comfortable positions in Paris to pursue a dream. They came to Champagne in 2002.

It was at that point Julie decided to complement her marketing and communications skills with technical knowledge of wine. She undertook another three years of studies to become an oenologist, graduating at the top of her class.

During and after her wine education, Julie Cavil worked on the vinification of four harvests for Moët & Chandon, after which she joined Moët Hennessy via the House of Krug. After 13 harvests at Krug, she currently is Winemaking Director working with a talented team in charge of winemaking, project development and sustainability.

Julie Cavil is married and has two children.
She loves sharing moments with friends, long conversations and making new discoveries.
